Subriel Matias Calls For Title Shot After Beating Gollaz Valenzuela
In an IBF junior welterweight eliminator, former champion Subriel “El Orgullo de Maternillo” Matias (22-2, 22KO) scored the late stoppage over Gollaz Valenzuela (30-4-1, 17KO).
After a slow start in the opening round, Matias’ power became a factor as he landed hard hooks and uppercuts.
Valenzuela abandoned boxing at a distance and made the mistake of trading shots with the Puerto Rican. He continued to fire back despite blood running down his face.
Valenzuela fought with bravery firing back with a badly damaged eye. Matias targeted the eye with punishing hooks and uppercuts.
Despite a long talk with the doctor, Valenzuela was allowed to fight on with a badly swollen eye. A reluctant Matias continued to land hard shots at the eye.
Realizing Valenzuela wasn’t going to quit, Matias turned up the pressure with hard shots that sent the Mexican to the canvas in the eighth round. The referee called off the fight saving Valenzuela from taking more punishment.
With the title he lost back within reach, Matias sent a message to IBF champion Richardson Hitchins during the post-fight interview.
“Hitchins, I’m coming for you motherfucker.”
