Hot prospect to watch Delante Johnson to make pro debut
Throughout his amateur career, Cleveland, Ohio native Delante “Tiger” Johnson (no record) has been an outstanding talent. Inside the ring he’s fluid, ferocious and wise beyond his years. These qualities have earned him national attention, countless trophies and awards and a place on the 2020 Olympic Boxing Team. Despite making it to the Olympics however, things didn’t go as he had initially hoped. After advancing past the first two rounds of competition, Johnson was beaten by Roniel Iglesias .
Even before going to the Olympics, Tiger vowed that he would go pro directly after the games. Not only did Johnson, 23, remain true to his word and turn pro, he successfully snagged a high-profile contract with Top Rank promotions. Backed with this influential company, Johnson will make his professional debut on the highly anticipated Terence Crawford versus Shawn Porter card. There, he will match wits with Floridian Antonius Grable (3-1-1, 3 KO’s). Grable, 29, who is coming off a draw, will be making his fourth professional appearance of the year.
It will be interesting to see what noise Johnson can make in his new endeavor. It’s no mystery that the welterweight division is among the most shark-infested waters in the sport. To make his way to the top of the heap will require all his vaulted wits and abilities. Yet, it should be a very fun ride to watch this amateur standout navigate his journey.
