Turki Alalshikh Aims To Make Teofimo Lopez vs Jaron Ennis
Saudia power player Turki Alalshikh revealed plans for a showdown featuring IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29KO) vs WBO junior welterweight champion “The Takeover Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13KO). With boxing heading on a downward spiral, can Alalshikh get this fight across the finish line?
The boxing news cycle is buzzing after a message from Alalshikh indicating a mini-tournament with Boots, The Takeover, Ryan Garcia, and Devin Haney. In addition, he wants the winners and losers of Haney vs Garcia and Ennis vs Lopez to face each other.
CAN HE DELIVER IN 2025?
Despite making a splash in the sport, Alalshikh failed to deliver the big fights that moved the needle in 2024. He will be under the gun to produce results, and these proposed fights are a good start.
The problem could be getting all the promotional companies to sign off on it. Top Rank probably won’t have an issue throwing Lopez in the Lion’s Den, considering they may be heading for a promotional divorce.
Matchroom Boxing, which holds the rights to Ennis, would sign the dotted line quickly. The Philadelphian would be viewed as the favorite against any of the previously mentioned names.
Haney uses Matchroom Boxing to host his fights on the DAZN streaming service. Depending on how the rematch with Garcia goes, he probably won’t be so eager to jump in against Ennis. If Lopez is victorious against the IBF champion, Haney could be lured at the opportunity to fight his long-time rival.
Golden Boy Promotions is the wild card in this situation. If Garcia is victorious in the rematch, they may want to move in a different direction. With October so far down the line, Alalshikh has a lot of work to do between now and then.
