Tyson Fury Has A Plan For Oleksandr Usyk
The entire boxing community awaits to see what the next move will be in the heavyweight division. Will unified champion Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13ko) rematch Anthony “AJ” Joshua (24-2, 22ko)? Will the fight for undisputed with WBC champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (31-0-1, 22ko) happen instead?
A THREE-WAY TRIANGLE
Joshua initially expressed not wanting to step-aside to allow the undisputed fight to take place and wanted to exact his immediate rematch clause with Usyk. However, in a follow-up statement, contradicts himself.
“I think people know not to approach me with that rubbish. It may have come to my team, but I think they all know not to bring that to me at this minute.”
“If the money is right, we have to look at it. We have to look at it. But, respect to me has a lot more value than money.”

Meanwhile, Usyk does not care who the next fight is against. But he has placed a target on the back of the Gypsy King.
“He talks a lot, he has a tongue. He claims he’s the king of the kings, but it’s only he who thinks that. I am capable of beating Fury because I’m not boasting that I can just punish and beat every boxer in the world. I just go to the gym and do my job.”

In the recent past, Fury seemed to have his future lined up. He expressed going straight into the undisputed bout with Usyk then fighting Joshua thereafter for his last bout before retirement.
“I want to fight Usyk next, for all the belts, and that’s it really. Then he [Joshua] can fight the winner. That’s it, and I am done!”

THINGS HAVE CHANGED
According to Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, the next fight for the charismatic WBC champion is more likely the forever top challenger Dillian Whyte.
“We’ve got to push ahead and get a date and an opponent for Fury. It seems to me that it’s logical it should be Dillian Whyte.”
Bob Arum – Top Rank Chairman
His statement indicates that perhaps a fight for the undisputed crown will not happen next.
Furthermore, Fury surprised the fans to help celebrate Arum’s 90th birthday during the intermission of Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Richard Commey. He would later join the ESPN commentary team. When asked about fighting for the undisputed crown, his answer backed up Arum’s statement.
“He’s 6’3” 220lbs. I eat guys like that for breakfast guaranteed! I’d like to see him beat up Anthony Joshua again. Then I’ll give him a taste of what a real heavyweight looks like.”

Hopefully, in 2022, the fight for undisputed will finally happen, however it pans out!
