Yordenis Ugas to defend Super WBA welterweight title against Fabian Maidana!

WBA welterweight champion Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugas (26-4, 12KOs) will make the first defense of his title since being elevated to super champion by the WBA. His opponent will be Fabian “TNT” Maidana (18-1, 13KOs). TNT is the younger brother of former two-division world champion Marcos Maidana.

Ugas is riding a three-fight win streak since losing a highly contested split decision to former WBC welterweight champion Shawn Porter back in March of 2019. The Cuban fighter has been seeking big fights. Unfortunately, those fights have thus far managed to elude him. However, this fight on the undercard of Spence-Pacquiao puts him right where he wants to be. If he can score an impressive win on this big stage, he solidifies his championship status.

The ideal opponent for the winner of the Spence-Pacquiao August 21 main event would be another divisional champion. Alongside WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford, Ugas would be the ideal next fight. As for Maidana, this is a huge opportunity. A win would catapult him into big money fights.
