Jayson Velez vs Orlando Cruz on September bout

There is very interesting crossroad fight between Jayson Velez (26-5-1, 18 KOs) and Orlando Cruz (25-6-2, 13 KOs) that will determine the fate if their careers.

Velez, 30, is a former WBC Latino Super Featherweight champion. His career has had some serious low moments and after losing four-straight fights, things seemed bleak.

Mounting a three fight win streak before falling short against Ryan Garcia earlier this year showed great effort.

Nicknamed “La Maravilla” he knows the importance a fight of this magnitude can be. While in this position previously, he produced a twelve round knockout over Juan Manuel Lopez in March.

Cruz (37), is a former WBO/WBC Latino Featherweight champion. He also captured minor titles at super-featherweight.

He is a crafty veteran who has fought some of the top names in two division while continuing to fights at the championship level. His last fight ended in a draw against top prospect Lamont Roach Jr.

Both men are from Puerto Rico, which makes this contest a classic hometown rivalry.

The winner will advance to bigger things while the loser could fall out of relevance.

This main event is part of Noche de Campeones (Night of Champions) on DIRECTV. Presented by Universal Promotion in association with Miguel Cotto Promotions on September 22.
