WBA Orders Trevor Bryan and Daniel Dubois to Begin Negotiations
When last seen in the ring, Regular WBA heavyweight champion Trevor “The Dream” Bryan (22-0, 15 KO’s) successfully defended his title against the challenge of Jonathan Guidry. At best, it was a pedestrian showing in which the champ had his hands full with the third-tier opponent. Directly following the bout however, Byran called out full heavyweight champions Tyson Fury (WBC) and Oleksandr Usyk (WBA Super, WBO and IBF) to a showdown. Apparently, the WBA had other plans all along!
When Bryan tangled with Guidry, he did so only after having been granted special permission. With that requisite bout out of the way, the Dream is now required to begin fight negotiations with his WBA Interim champ and mandatory challenger Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (17-1, 16 KO’s). Dubois is now two bouts removed from his sole professional defeat at the hands of Joe Joyce.
The Joyce loss, which came by way of tenth round stoppage, took place on November 28, 2020. Since then the UK import has knocked out Bogdan Dinu and Jos Cusumano. Even better, for marketing purposes, the first round stoppage of Cusumano also stood as Dynamite’s premiere prizefight in the states.
Provided this bout comes to fruition, it will be revealing to see if Bryan can retain his title to thwart his UK adversary. Or, will the #1 (WBA), #6 (WBO) and #15 (WBC) ranked Dubois continue marching unhindered to championship glory? Regardless of how the negotiations and fight play out, 3Kings Boxing will be there to report the news!
