Whyte takes what most consider even tougher fight
WOW, just wow. Dillian Whyte finally has an opponent, it’s not Luis Ortiz or Kubrat Pulev. It’s the former WBO heavyweight titlist Joseph Parker. Yesterday several news outlets jumped the gun, including this one. Myself, personally refrain from putting a name on his opponent because the rumors went everywhere.
Let’s start by first giving kudos to Dillian Whyte who can easily be fighting a easier fight to get a title eliminator, instead he chose former WBO champion Joseph Parker. The fight according to Eddie Hearn will be a PPV fight, July 28th at the O2 Arena in London, England.
Kell Brook will also be back on the card against an opponent yet to be determined. Parker who last fought Anthony Joshua, in a losing effort. He lost the championship bout by unanimous decision and also became the first fighter to go the distance against Joshua.
Hearn kept this one close to vest and really did a great job putting this one together. Whyte was slated to face Pulev in an IBF title eliminator. He could of also faced Ortiz in a WBC final title eliminator but that fight was never negotiated at all. The offer and the bout itself was made in the last week or so.
Whyte is coming off a sensational victory over Lucas Browne. A bout Whyte simply dominated from the beginning till the end. I must once again commend Whyte for taking this fight. Parker himself was close to finalizing a fight to face Bryant Jennings also must be commended for wanting to face Whyte.
Parker, who just suffered his first lost, could of took on an easier fight but chose Whyte over Jennings. The fight itself should be a good one in what’s already a stacked day of boxing.
