Tramaine Williams takes home a unanimous decision victory!
Tramaine “Mighty Midget” Williams (19-0, 6 KO’s) collected his nineteenth victory over Yenifel “The Lightning” Vicente (35-4-2, 27 KO’s) in the opener for Maurice Hooker versus Jose Carlos Ramirez super lightweight unification bout.
Williams and Vicente put on a lively and exciting ten-round affair that ended in a unanimous victory for Williams. The Mighty Midget won by the scorecard readings 97-91 twice, and 96-92.
The Breakdown
Williams rather easily claimed the first three rounds with his feet and jab. While circling on his back foot, he was able to consistently slip and evade the majority of Vicente’s punches. However, Lightning began to score increasingly with crisp body blows.
Out of nowhere, the Mighty Midget dove headfirst into a vigorous phone booth themed brawl beginning in the fourth. Williams appeared to claim the fourth period with his accuracy and volume. In the fifth round however, Vicente’s rugged body attack finally began to take effect.
Remembering that he had the better set of wheels, Williams began circling and boxing anew in the sixth period. While boxing, it was clear that the Mighty Midget had the far deeper set of tools.
To make matters worse, referee Laurence Cole would deduct a point for a low blow. Referee Cole warned Vicente about the egregious strikes several times before the actual deduction.
Roughly one minute into the seventh round, Vicente would lose another point for an even more obvious low blow. This time Williams would use several minutes to recover from the foul.
Following the break in action, the Lightning pounced and found great success with his hooks to the body and head. Just as Williams appeared to be wilting, he would stun his opponent with a series of his own left hooks.
This was easily one of the most exciting rounds in the fight.
In the eighth Williams would once again frustrate Vicente with his impressive boxing skills. He frustrated him so much so, that after the bell ended, lightning struck Williams with a very late punch.
In the ninth round, the fight returned to the phone booth where Vicente did enough to win. Williams concluded the fight functioning as a mobile boxer.
Akin the majority of the fight, when Williams was moving there was very little Vicente could do.
The man many like to compare to the late Pernell Whitaker stated he wants the best at super batamweight and named WBO champion Emanuel Navarrete along with unified champion Daniel Roman!
