Dominican prospect wins in NY debut
From Madison Square Garden in New York City highly touted prospect Carlos Adames improved to 14-0 with 11KO’s, winning a unanimous decision over Alejandro Barrera. Adames showed poised early on stalking Barrera (27-5,18KO’s).
Barrera began using his movement staying behind his jab. Both men ended the second round exchanging punches as Barrera seemed to be temporarily stunned.
However, Barrera came to fight letting his hands go in the very next round he just seemed to lack the power to keep the Dominican off of him. Adames constantly stalked Barrera and stepped up the pressure in the fourth round landing some big shots to the head and body.
Barrera showed tremendous heart throughout the night taking some big shots and willing to try to land shots of his own. Adames just kept coming however, landing the cleaner and harder punches. Both men got into exchanges throughout the fight. What was clear is that Adames didn’t have any respect for Barrera’s power.
Ultimately it was the prospect getting a unanimous decision (97-93,96-94,98-92) in a fight that every prospect needs. Barrera showed his toughness hung in there and gave the kid all that he could.
