147-Pound Champ Brian Norman Jr. Dominates Jin Sasaki
With the task of fighting on enemy turf at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, Brian “The Assassin II” Norman Jr. understood the assignment and knocked out Japanese challenger Jin Sasaki in five rounds to retain the WBO welterweight title. Norman Jr. is looking like he’s the future standard-bearer at 147 pounds.
The champion put on a show. Forty-five seconds into the opening round, Norman Jr. knocked Sasaki down with a counter-left hook to the head. Seconds later, Sasaki went down for a second time in the round from a left-hook-right-hand combination. Norman Jr. continued to pick apart his opponent in the third. He even had him on shaky legs in round four from a series of power punches.
In the hours leading up to this fight, unified 147-pound champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis announced his intentions to move up to 154. It now leaves the division up for the taking.
Norman Jr. is proving to be a fighter of real substance. Only 24 years of age, he hasn’t even reached the apex of his powers. After such a devastating performance against Sasaki, the door is open for the resident of Conyers, Georgia to rule for years to come.
