Alexis Barriere Gets The Stoppage Over Ubaldo Ilagor
In a heavyweight showdown, undefeated prospect Alexis Barriere (12-0, 10KO) returns from a long layoff to stop Ubaldo llagor (13-2, 12KO).
A decorated Canadian amateur, Barriere used that long jab to control the fight. Then his straight left hand couldn’t miss as he busted open the Mexican challenger.
Realizing the fight looked like a one-sided beating, Ilagor came out swinging. He managed to land a few straight right hands, but Barriere’s combination punches regained control of the fight.
Barriere learned a lot in training camp with two-time champion Tyson Fury. In round five, his glove touched the canvas, but the referee ruled it a slip instead of a knockdown.
Nonetheless, Barriere went to work landing hard punches that put Ilagor on the canvas twice in the sixth. Despite surviving the round, the Mexican’s corner decided against letting him continue taking an unnecessary beating.
Everything about the undefeated prospect looked good, his footwork, defense, punch accuracy, and hand speed were on point. Behind the teachings of trainer SugaHill Steward, Barriere has a bright future in the division.
