Alexis Rocha Defeats Santiago Dominguez In Impressive Fashion
Welterweight contender Alexis “Lex” Rocha (25-2, 16KO) looked impressive with a victory over Santiago “Somer” Dominguez (27-1, 20KO).
These fighters threw hard shots from the opening bell, as Lex looked like a man on a mission. He went to the body early and found a home for those uppercuts against the undefeated Mexican.
Yet, Somer wasn’t bothered and came marching back with hard hooks and landed a flurry of shots to the body. He landed painful straight righthands, stopping Rocha’s aggression momentarily.
Over the next several rounds, Rocha showed a level of ring IQ not seen in his previous fights. He fought well off the back foot by landing straight lefthands and using movement and angles to nullify Somer’s power.
Dominguez complained about low blows twice, only for the referee to tell him those were legal shots. Realizing his opponent didn’t like those shots, Rocha relentlessly attacked the body in the middle rounds.
The Californian’s footwork, movement, counterspunching, and defense were on full display. His ability to spin off the ropes and counter baffled Dominguez until the final bell.
Two judges scored it 99-91, and one judge saw it 98-92 in favor of Rocha who walked away with the WBO NABO minor title.
