Alycia Baumgardner Itching For A Super Fight With Amanda Serrano

Reigning undisputed junior lightweight champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (15-1, 7 KOs) is a fighter with options. At the top of her target list is a match-up with the undisputed featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (44-2-1, 30 KOs).

The two ladies have reached star status in women’s boxing. While on the I AM ATHLETE podcast, Baumgardner talked about her desire to get Serrano in the ring.

“Everyone wants to see that fight. She’s a great fighter, a great champion. She’s a southpaw. This is a great fight for me. Everybody wants to see the young bull come out. I’m ready.”

SIZING HER UP

A seven-division world champion, Serrano is a future Hall of Famer. The 34-year-old has plenty of boxing skills yet can walk down and punish her opponents with her high work rate and brutal body attack.

The Real Deal has been an elite fighter for the past decade. However, Baumgardner said she sees some weakness in her potential future opponent that she can exploit.

“I think she leaves herself open when she does come forward and when she’s throwing that many punches. It only takes one punch; timing is everything.

“I believe that with my technique and skill, my athleticism […] I would catch her. I would set her up with something.”

NOT ANYTIME SOON

Baumgardner is correct to say that it’s a battle that the boxing public would love to witness. However, there are impending factors that The Bomb must overcome.

The junior lightweight champion is waiting on whether she will serve any punishment for testing positive for banned substances days before her July 2023 victory over Christina Linardatou. Should Baumgarner receive no punishment, she must defend her belts against mandatory challenger and former WBC lightweight champion Delfine Persoon.

Baumgardner is promoted by Eddie Hearn, who wants to make the match. Should the 130-pound champion get past those immediate obstacles, a fight with Serrano would be in play for the summer or fall of 2024.
