Is Andy Lee Next For Danny Jacobs?

Jacobs vs Lee? Hearn says it’s possible

Daniel Jacobs proposed fight against Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan looks to be in jeopardy. However O’Sullivans compatriot Andy Lee may well fill the void.

Jacob’s promoter Eddie Hearn claims that O’Sullivan’s team seem less likely to agree to a deal to fight Jacobs at Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, Jacobs hometown. HBO will televise that night.

Hearn said“I hoped [Jacobs-O’Sullivan] would happen, but it doesn’t look like Spike’s side wants it,” Hearn said following a press conference for the Anthony Joshua-Joseph Parker heavyweight title unification fight. “Not Spike himself, by the way. Sorry Spike, because I know you’d fight anyone. But it’s politics, basically, which is a shame because it’s a big payday, big fight. Possibly, Andy Lee might get the opportunity as well against Danny Jacobs.”

O’Sullivan emerged as a possible contender for Jacobs after scoring a shock KO victory against Antoine Douglas last December in Canada. Andy Lee has only fought once since losing the WBO Middleweight title to Billy Joe Saunders in December 2015. He last fought in March last year, winning by unanimous decision against KeAndre Leatherwood.

Jacobs is looking to get back into world title contention following his loss to Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin last year, in a fight many thought he won. His last outing saw him outpoint Luis Arias in what was his first fight in a multi-fight agreement with HBO.
