Chris Arreola puts a halt on retirement plans.

Veteran heavyweight title contender Chris Arreola would face undefeated Jean Pierre Augustin in a crossroad bout of a prospect looking to move into the ranking system over a fighter past him prime.

This would prove to be a huge mistake that became noticeable early in the fight. The former contender would come forward throwing the jab while applying pressure. The challenger would land the straight left-hand a few times, but couldn’t build off it. Throughout the remainder of the fight, it was the veteran fighter showing the value of experience.

Arreola landed a hard jab that buckled the knees of the little known challenger and this was a prelude as to what would come. Landing big punches and not allowing himself to get tied up, he scored a knock down before finishing the hurt opponent in the third round.

This was a very necessary victory to save the career of the veteran heavyweight. He said if he didn’t win or look good he would retire. For now, he has avoided that fate. He has lived up to the nickname “The Nightmare” by spoiling the hopes of the undefeated southpaw fighter.
