Bob Arum confirms Josh Warrington vs Shakur Stevenson negotiations have started!

WBO featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson (13-0, 7KO) may finally get his wish to face IBF champion Josh Warrington (30-0, 7KO) in 2020.

Top Rank chairman, Bob Arum who promotes Stevenson revealed to the Boxing Social that negotiations have begun.

“We’d love to do that fight. We’re treading slowly. One of the issues is where that fight belongs. I think we’ve all come to the conclusion that the fight should be in the U.K.

“Warrington is I think a tremendous attraction, Leeds I think he’s from and Shakur who’s a gutty you know cocky guy who’s just won the 126lb title against the brother of his girlfriend, which made it a very interesting event would be happy to go across the pond and do the fight.

“So we’ll be working on that fight in the weeks ahead. I love that fight! I think it would be terrific! Warrington you know he just never stops throwing punches. So he’s really interesting in that regard. In Shakur you have a guy I label the left hand Floyd Mayweather because he’s such a great defensive fighter.”

A fight between these two doesn’t seem like it’ll be too difficult make. Although Arum alluded to the only issue is the location. He quickly changed course by admitting that all parties have agreed that the fight location should take place across the pond in the U.K.

In an article published previously on 3kingsboxing.com, Stevenson stated he would definitely go the UK to take the IBF strap!

If made, the winner would be a unified champion and in the drivers seat to make the claim as the worlds best featherweight!
