Bob Arum Supports Lopez v Loma in April 2020

When Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez (15-0, 12 KO’s) went toe-to-toe with IBF world lightweight champion Richard “RC” Commey (29-3, 26 KO’s), he handled his business in a major way. In the second round, Lopez cold-cocked Commey with a vicious right hand that put him on the canvas and separated him from his sense.

LOPEZ V LOMA IN APRIL 2020?

To the proud Ghanaian’s credit, RC displayed more heart and recuperative abilities than the Black Panther in getting back to his feet. Despite getting back upright, the very impaired Commey proved to be easy prey for El Brooklyn. Lopez would promptly jump his opponent and finish the show. The stunning victory, and first world title attempt, makes the former prospect the newly crowned IBF world lightweight champion.

It’s no secret that Lopez has been clamoring for a showdown with WBA and WBO world lightweight champion Vasiliy “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KO’s). Until now though, Lopez’s pursuit of Hi-Tech has been completely one sided. His brutal dethroning of Commey has changed all that in a hurry!

When interviewed shortly after the second round annihilation, Lomachenko himself confirmed that he would be open and available for a fight with El Brooklyn. Even better, their mutual promoter Bob Arum has said even he wants to make the prizefight a reality. Going a step further, Arum indicated that Lopez and Loma are on board and each are open to an April 2020 slugfest in Madison Square Garden.

“Yeah in April, we’re looking for April…that’s what I hope. I think both guys want to do it here [Madison Square Garden].”

If this were true, and actually came into reality, Lomachenko v Lopez would make for a surefire all-action fight! Let’s just hope that the principle players in this scenario stick to this current script and make the bout happen.
