Bob Arum Questions Whether Crawford Has Mental State Needed to Beat Spence
The one fight everyone is praying for the boxing gods to let happen this year is the mega-showdown for undisputed between unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (28-0, 22KOs) and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29KOs). Depending on who you ask, fans will pick Spence or Crawford. However, Bob Arum believes Crawford may not be in the best mental state to defeat The Truth.
In November 2021, Bud separated from long-time promotional partner Top Rank. Moreover, he slapped on a hefty lawsuit in a bitter divorce claiming that Arum’s inability to promote black fighters hurt his career. As it stands right now, Crawford is a free agent, and fans are waiting to see if his next move is to join the ranks of Premier Boxing Champions in order to score the biggest fight of his career.
Arum in the past has stated that Crawford beats Spence and that the unified champion knows it. Well, it seems he is singing a different tune after witnessing Spence break down former WBA Super champion Yordenis Ugas.
ARUM QUESTIONS CRAWFORD’S MENTAL TOUGHNESS
During an interview with FightHype, Arum was asked if he still has faith in Crawford to come out victorious, and his answer was jaw-dropping.
“I always thought Crawford was the better fighter, but I don’t know where Crawford’s head is at. To fight at that level that Spence showed, you have to have a clear head and make the right decisions, and I don’t know if Terence is capable of that anymore.”
