Bob Arum Says Crawford-Pacquiao Could be in the Works
In a rather ironic turn of events, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum disclosed in a recent interview that Team Pacquiao reached out to make a fight with WBO world welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (36-0, 27 KO’s).
The notification is ironic because when both Crawford and WBA super world welterweight champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KO’s) were both under same Top Rank banner, the fight was never put together. Despite both men wanting the showdown, Arum has openly admitted that he personally did not want the dangerous fight for the Pac Man. Yet, now that Pacquiao is a PBC fighter, it looks like we might finally get this tremendous match-up made.
“Well Pacquiao and his people have reached out to me about the possibility of a Crawford fight. We were hopefully thinking about scheduling that fight outside of the United States, we’ll have to see. But that is certainly a very interesting fight and once this [COVID-19] clears up, I think we have a way where it can happen.”
Obviously both teams, and a great deal of fans, would like to see this fight finally get realized. Yet, if the fight is made, it will be very hard to understand why it took all these years, and for Pac Man to leave Top Rank, before it could be put together. Especially when bearing in mind that Top Rank has a very long history of preferring to make in-house fights before dealing with outside companies.
In the end however, as long as we are finally treated this wonderful bout, boxing will just have to get over the wait! Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing for all the latest in boxing news and updates.
