Brazilian Amateur Star Beatriz Ferreira Signs Deal With Matchroom Promotions
For years, Beatriz Ferreira has been considered an elite amateur in women’s boxing. She has decided that now is the time to enter the professional ranks. On July 25, Matchroom Boxing announced that the Brazilian amateur star signed a long-term deal with the promotional company. As part of the announcement, the 29-year-old from Salvador shared her excitement.
“Today is truly a very special day for me. I’m so excited to be turning professional and to sign with the best in the business, my manager Brian Peters and promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom. I can’t wait to have my debut and to be involved in big fights and have people all over the world follow my journey on DAZN.
It’s a big challenge for me and an exciting new stage in my career, but I’m also really happy that I can continue to live my Olympic dream. I plan to win gold at Paris in 2024 while also winning many World Titles as a professional. I’m more determined than ever to succeed at the very top in this sport, and I can promise the fans a great show every time I step in the ring.”
EXTENSIVE PEDIGREE
Ferreira’s amateur accomplishments are extensive. For one, she is a three-time Pan-American Champion (2017, 2018, 2019). She also won a silver medal in the lightweight division at the 2020 Japan Olympics, among numerous other achievements.
Despite her plans to compete in the upcoming 2024 Olympics, she has the potential to excel in the pros. Nicknamed “The Beast”, Ferreira is a physically strong and aggressive fighter. What separated her from the pack as an amateur was that the ferocity came with sound fundamentals and technical skills. That should result in a smooth transition very well once she fights professionally full-time.
HIGH EXPECTATIONS
Her pro debut is anticipated to be at 135-pounds, a weight area chocked full of talent. Undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor had an epic split decision with her win over current unified featherweight champ Amanda Serrano in April 2022. Just a division, unified champion Mikaela Mayer faces WBC champ Alycia Baumgardner in a unification on September 10.
Look for Matchroom to move Ferreira quickly with an eye on the action taking place at that 130-135 pound landscape. For them to make this kind of investment is a testament they view her as a unique talent and a potential star
