Ben Whittaker Takes Home Minor IBF Title Over Ezra Arenyeka
Light heavyweight prospect Ben “The Surgeon” Whittaker (8-0, 5KO) walked away with an IBF minor title against Ezra “African King” Arenyeka (12-1, 10KO).
The Surgeon came out looking to establish dominance by using the jab and straight right hand. Annoyed by the trash talk during the build-up from the African King, Whittaker looked to take the fight out of his opponent with vicious body shots.
Once he realized the fight was under control, Whittaker went back to the showboating that often annoyed fans. He slipped and slid across the ring before striking like a snake with hard countershots.
At the end of the sixth, for some reason, Whittaker walked his opponent to the corner, resulting in the Nigerian giving him a headbutt. The referee deducted a point from Arenyeka for throwing an elbow in round seven.
In the closing rounds, The Surgeon cranked up the offense and unloaded a barrage of punches on his opponent. As the final bell was about to sound, he had Arenyeka on wobbly legs. When the fight was over, one judge scored it 100-99, with two seeing it 99-90 for Whittaker.
