Looming legal battle avoided by Benavidez
Every once in awhile we as people agree to things and just simply have a change of heart. That’s exactly what happened with WBC super middleweight titlist David Benavidez, who gave back his $250K signing bonus to Top Rank Promotions.
Benavidez has decided to stay with Sampson Boxing and advisor Al Haymon. It’s a move that probably shocked Bob Arum, as Top Rank has been looking to acquire more talent. Top Rank has an exclusive deal with ESPN for their broadcasting rights.
However, now that ESPN has launched a streaming service, Top Rank has been given a surge in dates. With more dates to fill, you need more in house talent. Benavidez added another body, also a up and coming young talent.
Top Rank has WBO super middleweight titlist Gilberto Ramirez, think of the build up that could of been. Ultimately no one knows why Benavidez changed his mind, hopefully we can still get the two young warriors matched up against one another.
In the end Benavidez must do what’s best for him, I’m sure Top Rank is disappointed. Their search for new talent continues.
