David Benavidez Expects David Lemieux Fight to be Bloody and Violent!
On May 21, boxing fans will be treated to a matchup between two heavy-hitting former world champions. Unbeaten two-time WBC 168-pound champion David “Red Flag” Benavidez (25-0, 22KOs) and former IBF 160-pound champion David “The Demolisher” Lemieux (43-4, 36KOs) will clash for the Interim WBC 168-pound title.
Due to Benavidez’s war of words with WBC 160-pound champion Jermall Charlo and former IBF 168-pound champion Caleb Plant, his bout with Lemieux has been seemingly forgotten about. However, Benavidez is fully focused on the task at hand, even with all of the chatter from his adversaries.
Speaking to iFL TV, he spoke about why the time is now perfect for these two former world champions to duke it out in what he expects to be a bloody and violent affair!
“I feel like we’re both at these crossing points; where he wants to get back to being the world champion, and I want to get back to being the world champion. […] We both have the same motivation. He’s towards the end of his career. I’m at this threshold where I want to get through my career [and] make a big name for myself. So that’s why I feel it just spells maybe ‘Fight of the Year’ honestly.”
EXPECT BLOOD AND VIOLENCE!
“I’m going in there, I’m very motivated. I know he’s very motivated. We’ve both got a lot of knockouts, so expect it to be a bloody and violent fight. I’m not backing down. I feel like this fight is going to be the person who has the most heart and I’m going to come out victorious.”
Outside of his tremendous skillset, you have to love the Red Flag’s fighter mentality. Always seeking out a challenge, it’s clear he won’t stop until his name is engrained in the history books of boxing. With the power both men possess, it’s hard to envision this fight going the full twelve rounds.
