Teofimio Lopez Sr Steps In To Retract Son’s Statement About ESPN

In a recent interview with Punsh Drunk Boxing, former unified lightweight champion Teofimo “Take Over” Lopez (18-1, 13 KO’s) had a lot to say in one short segment. While on the mic, a livid Teofimo took shots at his promotional company Top Rank and sports network giant ESPN. Feeling as though he was being slighted, Lopez stated that he was parting ways with Top Rank and couldn’t care less about continuing to work with ESPN. Seeing the professional danger zone that the verbal barrage put the Take Over in Teofimo Lopez Sr knew he had a little smoothing over to do!

Naturally, while conversing with Mill City Boxing, Lopez Sr was quick to say that his son was very mad and talking without thinking.

“Listen man, people say things in the moment, we’re going to fight with Top Rank until our contract is over with. Which is like less than a year, so I think we are going to have one more fight or two more. We have a contract, so we have to fight! He understood that what he said was wrong.”

DON’T RIP THE MEAL TICKET!!!!

It will be interesting to see how the relationship with ESPN and Top Rank proceeds into the future. To begin, now is not the time for Lopez to be rocking the boat. This is because ever since his November 27, 2021 loss to George Kambosos Jr, he has been on something of a downward spiral. While he has not lost again, he certainly did not look great in his last showing against Sandor Martin.

In fact, there is no lack of fans who believe he should have flat out lost to Martin. To go a step further, Take Over was caught on the mic asking his corner if he was the same guy he used to be. Obviously Lopez himself felt that he was slipping. He is currently scheduled to go to war with Josh Taylor on June 10. Even now there are a healthy number of fans who believe he will come up short in that duel.

All of these events and circumstances are exactly why one would think that Lopez would be playing it cool. Given all his recent tough talk and bravado though, Take Over better make sure that he beats Taylor in June! One more loss, or overly shaky performance, could be the perfect recipe for disaster. Thankfully, no matter which way it turns out, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
