Multiple major networks are currently showing interest in picking up the Berchelt-Roman WBC clash.
The WBC Super-Featherweight showdown between champion Miguel Berchelt (34-1, 30 KOs) and challenger Miguel Roman (60-12, 47 KOs) may not appear on HBO. A date has not been set as of yet, but October 13 and 20 have been explored.
Although both men have appeared on HBO for the last two years, it appears negotiations are continuing with other networks. Showtime, DAZN and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum have all shown interest.
This could be a major blow if HBO loses this blockbuster fan-friendly event.
The WBC ordered a mandatory title defense and even gave both teams additional time to sort out the final details.
Undefeated since 2014, Berchelt is seen as one of the best fighters in the division. His victory over then-champion Francisco Vargas introduced him to the boxing community.
He would later fight Takashi Miura, where he displayed very good boxing skills, therein proving he is not a one-dimensional fighter.
When Roman lost a hard fought contest to Takashi Miura in 2017, many pundits felt this was the end of his career. However, winning his next four fights by knock out would see him back in title contention and a wildcard of the division.
This included a surprising knock out victory over Orlando Salido that placed him into mandatory status.
Berchelt will enjoy having the height, reach and power advantage. Roman will have the advantage in experience.
The network that lands this bout will undoubtedly be broadcasting a fight of the year candidate.
3kingsboxing will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they develop.
