Miguel Berchelt and Francisco Vargas will meet again on ESPN
WBC junior lightweight champion Miguel Berchelt will make his fifth defense of his title against the man he beat to become champion, Francisco Vargas.
Rewind to January 2017, a virtually unknown Berchelt stopped Vargas in the eleventh round in an all-action war! The win would thwart Vargas from successfully making a third defense of the title.
This development does not come as a surprise since Vargas has been vocal about wanting a rematch. Furthermore, Berchelt called out the former champion in the post-fight interview after defeating Miguel Roman November 2018.
Since losing his title, Vargas has respectfully made his way back into title contention. He defeated top contender Stephen Smith in about where the British fighter was forced to retire due to a gruesome injury.
Following, came a knockout victory over Rod Salka in which the loser wore controversial attire representing President Donald Trump’s idea of building a wall between the US and Mexico. Both wins would grant Vargas the #1 ranking with the WBC.
This bout will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on March 23 live on ESPN!
