Evelin Bermudez is Marching Towards Undisputed After Destroying Debora Rengifo

Newly crowned unified junior flyweight champion Evelyn “La Princesita” Bermudez (16-0-1, 6KOs) has been on a roll since entering the professional ranks in 2016. The 25-year-old Argentinian is viewed as one of the top female fighters in her country. Moreover, her recent accolade will push that even higher up the list.

On March 26, La Princesita made the fifth defense of the title, and as a bonus, she picked up the vacant WBO title in the process. Fighting in her backyard, the unified champion dominated Venezuelan challenger Debora Rengifo (16-9-1, 9KOs) right out the gate.

Bermudez pressed the action, coming forward while landing hard right hands, using her technical skill-set to create offensive opportunities. After five rounds of action, the fight was stopped as Bermudez’s record remains unblemished.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE UNIFIED CHAMPION?

There are plenty of options for the champion at this point. She is already the carrier of two major titles, so naturally, the call for undisputed is priority number one. WBC champion Yesenia Gomez and WBA champion Jessica Nery Plata, both Mexican champions, could more than likely fight each other, with the winner facing Bermudez for undisputed.

She may have to travel to fight the winner. Her first appearance fighting in Mexico was against Silvia Torres back in 2019. However, La Princesita may not be keen on the idea of returning after receiving a controversial draw.

There is one more option on the table: a fight with two-divisional champion “Super Bad” Seniesa Estrada. This fight would be a dream match-up as both champions are at their peak. Moreover, both have a high skillset, so it would be the ultimate game of chess.

For right now, the unified champion is enjoying the spoils of victory. Bermudez, once viewed as being slept-on, is making enough noise where fans are paying attention.
