Bill Haney Will Make It To Devin Haney’s Corner!
In his attempt to be great, WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (27-0, 15 KO’s) accepted a very tall order for his next bout. This is because the Californian signed on the dotted line to face unified 135-pound champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos Jr (20-0, 10 KO’s) in his own Australian backyard. Yet the situation became a little direr when it was announced that his father and trainer, Bill Haney, would not be allowed to make the trip.
According to Top Rank, it’s been indicated that Bill will be able to man his son’s corner on fight night.
Initially when it was thought that Bill would not be allowed to physically attend the event, Team Haney sought to be able to use a headset. In this way the senior Haney would be able to provide instruction in between rounds. According to Bill, everyone was on board with this expect for Team Kambosos. Technically speaking though, using electronic devices in the corner is a violation of the formal rules.
Yet in this unusual circumstance, the WBC champion and his crew were hopeful an exception could be made. With this latest revelation, however, using any sort of electronic device is no longer a relevant issue.
Despite having to travel to foreign soil to face the champion at home, Haney is still a heavy betting favorite ahead of the contest. Throughout the media week obligations, the Dream has maintained a calm and cool demeanor that suggests he is not being overwhelmed by the moment.
