Bill Haney Suggests Ryan Garcia Pick A Testing Agency
With the arrival of 2025’s first quarter, the boxing world is bristling with great potential fights. Chief among them is a rematch for WBC junior welterweight champion in recess Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KO’s) and “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KO’s). The two staged a high profile prizefight that was equal parts exciting entertainment and mired in controversy. This was the result of Garcia first coming in a whopping three pounds overweight then later being flagged for PED’s use. Ever since, The Dream, and Bill Haney, his father, manager and chief second, have demanded drug testing.
In rather vexing fashion however, Garcia has refused to initiate any form of drug testing program. His biggest sticking point is with the use of VADA. According to King Ry, VADA is overly loyal to Team Haney and thereby a corrupt agency. Thankfully, as Bill Haney explained to ThaBoxingVoice, Team Haney is open to using multiple sample-collecting companies. This would allow King Ry and his team to find whatever additional company that they feel comfortable with.
“The more the testing the better, you know what I mean?! The more the testing the better. We don’t have any problem with that, the more the testing the better. One agency will assure it and two agencies will secure it!”
WHY THE HIDDEN HANDS?
Honestly, as far as the boxing world is concerned, we should want to see something like this take place. If two agencies are used in a rematch, it could very well set a historical new precedent for how fights are tested. This would be a real world application of setting up the two companies side by side and seeing how they perform in real-time.
Without question, utilizing two agencies simultaneously would only shine more light on the topic and ideally would help spread more education on the subject – education that is so sorely needed among fans and many fighters, alike. Lastly, completing camp without incident whilst navigating two drug companies would without question demonstrate that King Ry was clean. How better to show that he is clean than by adhering to a brand new standard?
Sadly however, at the moment the rematch is just spinning its wheels in mud. Let’s hope that something changes in attitudes so that this very necessary rematch can be properly staged.
