BILL HANEY WELCOMES GERVONTA DAVIS VS DEVIN HANEY FIGHT!
Bill Haney, father and trainer of unbeaten WBC lightweight champion in recess Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs), says he would love to see his son lock horns with two-time junior lightweight champion and current WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis (23-0, 22KOs).
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, the elder Haney had this to say on the potential match-up:
“Tank is a guy we have a lot of respect for what he’s done in the ring. Initially I took Devin to spar with Tank in Baltimore before Devin even turned pro. Tank has always been you know, I’ve always been a fan of Tank inside the ring. You know his ferociousness, his approach to systematically breaking an opponent down.
I’ve always been a big fan of him. So you know a fight with Devin, me as a fan of the sport, that’s a fight I would like to see. Whether him or his team wants to get together and do it or not, I don’t know.
When we decided to make our move, there’s no one at 135 that Devin won’t fight right now. I think that’s the mark of a champion. I don’t think you get a belt and hide out and say you have a plan. Your plan should be to defend your belt as a champion, so we don’t know what the landscapes look or his next fight.”
Both Haney and Davis have went back and forth in the past on social media. Currently sidelined recovering from shoulder injury, Haney will be looking to shake-off some minor rust once he’s cleared to return to action before taking part in a mega-fight, whether it’s against Davis or anyone else at 135.
As for Davis, he appears to be headed for a potential showdown with multi-weight champion Leo Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19KOs) in June.
Let’s all hope that these fight come to fruition at some point really soon.
