Cecilia Braekhus Says McCaskill is Still a Go

Aside from when the sport itself will resume, the biggest question on the minds of fight fans everywhere is: what fights will we get to see first? There is a wide spread belief that when competition is sanctioned once again that there will be a flood of fighters looking to get in the ring as quickly as possible.

Logically speaking, one would expect those fight cards that were direct victims of the COVID-19 pandemic to be among the first in line. This may or may not turn out to be true. Some big named boxers have already come forward to express their unwillingness to fight minus a live audience of fans. Thankfully for female fight fans, Braekhus v McCaskill should still be one of the first prizefights that we see upon boxing returning.

NOTHING DERAILED HERE

Had COVID-19 never dropped its deadly reign of terror over the globe, undisputed welterweight champion “First Lady” Cecilia Braekhus (36-0, 9 KO’s) would have fought WBA world junior welterweight champion Jessica “CasKilla” McCaskill (8-2, 3 KO’s) on April 17.

The two are to be a part of a four-woman tournament that also includes undisputed world lightweight champion Katie Taylor and WBO world featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (38-1-1, 28 KO’s). While Braekhus cannot speak for Serrano and Taylor, she assured IFL TV that her bout with McCaskill is still full steam ahead.

“I suspect that I will be back in the ring around July. From what I am reading, what I’ve been hearing, talking to my manager, promoter I will expect July, maybe the latest August…that will be against Jessica [McCaskill] definitely.”

In this ever-shifting landscape, it’s good to hear that Braekhus v McCaskill does not appear to be in any jeopardy.
