Cecilia Braekhus Not Overlooking McCaskill
Just like every other professional fighter on the planet, undisputed welterweight champion “First Lady” Cecilia Braekhus (36-0, 9 KO’s) finds herself in quarantine and saddled with a postponed fight. Prior to the avalanche of social change brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Braekhus was scheduled to face the ferocious WBC and WBA super lightweight champion Jessica “CasKilla” McCaskill (8-2, 3 KO’s).
While neither of these combat-friendly females know when they will fight, both are very much still committed to the upcoming rumble. So, even the though the boxing world has been placed on an uncertain hiatus, Braekhus is taking the time to continue her training.
MCCASKILL NOT TO BE OVERLOOKED!
Due to having remained unbeaten over an impressive thirteen-year professional career, there are many who believe that the First Lady will walk right through McCaskill. Braekhus is not one of those individuals! Not only does she hold a great deal of respect for CasKilla, Braekhus is preparing herself for one hellacious fight.
“We both fought [Erica Anabella] Farias, which is a brilliant fighter, and I actually thought that Farias was going to beat McCaskill. So McCaskill beating Farias, a world champion, so seasoned, so good and experienced that was a big deal. That was huge!”
“So I think those who have followed boxing and followed women’s boxing for a while, they know that this is going to be a real tough fight. And those who haven’t are the ones saying that this will be just a walk over and then she’ll be ready for her next challenge. McCaskill is definitely not someone you’re overlooking! And I’m not doing that either!”
FOCUSED IN THE STORM
Clearly, Braekhus is keeping her mind focused on the task at hand rather than falling prey to mental and physical complacency. With this being the case, the First Lady is determined to keep her fight preparations barreling forward at full speed.
“Well of course, when something like this happens, you have to reset. But we are fighters, we are professional boxers, this is not the first time that a fight has been off for us. So what we do is we go back to the gym and we stay in shape. We stay ready, our training changes a little of course, and our daily goals and motivation change a little bit, but the main goal is still there.”
“And it’s still the fight, so when you get the call about the fight or the show is on, then you should be ready to get back to the gym and get some sparring in, and yeah, you’re ready!”
So like Braekhus, boxing fans and all sports fans in general, we are all hoping that this worldwide calamity comes to an end very, very soon! Yet, in the mean time, we all must stay motivated and dedicated to the task at hand!
