Mikaela Mayer To Finally Get Her World Title Shot
WBO Women’s World Junior Lightweight champion titlist Ewa Brodnicka (19-0, 2 KOs) and mandatory challenger Mikaela Mayer (13-0, 5 KOs) have agreed to terms for a fight later this year.
Mariusz Grabowski, promoter of Brodnicka and President of Tymex Boxing Promotions, announced the news via his Twitter page.
On August 7, the WBO had ruled the 36-year-old champion from Warsaw Poland’s next title defense must be against Mayer. Now that a deal has been struck, that eliminates negotiations going to a purse bid.
For her part, the WBO #1 Women’s contender at 130-pounds has not been shy about wanting a world title shot. She even also publicly called out the champ. Mayer’s cup runneth over with confidence. Believing that she will go down as one of the greatest women’s boxers of all time, the 30-year-old from Woodland Hills, California will now get her chance to start to prove that she’s the genuine article.
There are good odds Brodnicka – Mayer will land and on DAZN. That is due in large part because Brodnicka recently signed a deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing on August 7.
