How Well Is Adrien Broner Served Under Don King?
Multi-divisional champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (34-4-1, 24KO) is burning up the social media news cycle after signing with legendary Hall of Fame promoter Don King. However, Broner may continue to struggle trying to revive his career.
The Problem has been unable to get back into the ring since leaving Premier Boxing Champions to join BLK Prime in 2022. His comeback was placed on hold after dealing with three fighters pulling out of the fight for various reasons. Broner would later divorce BLK Prime stating they couldn’t deliver everything he needed. Furthermore, he invited all promotional companies to come and talk as he was a free agent.
Golden Boy Promotions expressed an interest in promoting the four-divisional champion. However, Boxing Fans did not predict Broner signing with Don King Promotions. The legendary promoter revealed the news on social media with a picture of the two sitting with a stack of money on the table.
CAN BRONER REVIVE HIS CAREER?
The 91 year-old King was a promotional titan from the 1980s until the mid-2000s. He has not been involved in a high-profile fight in over a decade, nor does he have a deal with any major network or streaming service.
The open question here is: how will this help get Broner’s career back on track? It is also worth mentioning he is currently not ranked by any of the major sanctioning bodies and has a record of 2-2-1 in the last five fights. So, the 33-year-old can curb any thoughts of fighting for a championship anytime soon.
Equally important, The Problem has been out of the ring since 2021, and his cache has depleted some over the last two years. This author is giving this announcement a raised eyebrow simply because there doesn’t seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel.
It will be interesting to see how things play out in the upcoming months.
