Callum Simpson Picks Up A Big Victory Over Zak Chelli
In a domestic-level super middleweight contest, Callum Simpson (15-0, 10KO) picked up a big win over the Commonwealth and British champion Zak Chelli (15-3-1, 7KO)
Simpson came out firing hard shots landing rights and left-hand hooks that stunned Chelli in the opening round. As the fight continued, he fought tall behind the jab before landing more shots that had his opponent on wobbly legs.
Going into the middle rounds, Chelli wasn’t going to lay down and begin to find a rhythm with the jab. He even went to the body a few times hoping to slow down the overly energetic Simpson. After that short success, Chelli forgot to take his head off the centerline and got hit with repeated right hands.
Simpson fought on a different level that never showed in his previous fights. His footwork, defense, and accurate punching kept the Commonwealth British champion on the back foot. Down the stretch, it was all Simpson as the crowd erupted at the final bell, knowing the hometown fighter had captured the titles.
The judge’s scorecard read 118-111, 118-110, and 117-111 in favor of Simpson.
