Luke Campbell to return March 15 in Philadelphia
3kingsboxing.com has learned Olympic gold medalist and lightweight contender Luke Campbell (19-2, 15KO) will make his return to the ring on March 15. The opponent is yet to be determined, however, the date is set!
Campbell avenged the first loss of his career when he defeated Yvan Mendy in a one-sided rematch September 2018. The win granted him mandatory status for WBC champion Mikey Garcia.
There’s an expectation that Garcia could elect to stay at welterweight win or lose against Errol Spence on march 16. He could also drop down to junior welterweight where he’s already won a title.
If that’s the case, Campbell could end up fighting the number two ranked contender Zaur Abdullaev (11-0, 7KO). Moreover, in the event of Abdullaev not taking the opportunity, prospects Deven Haney and Teofimo Lopez ranked four and five respectively are both eager for a title opportunity.
The third ranked contender Anthony Crolla is the WBA mandatory for lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko and will fight for that title on April 12.
3kingsboxing.com will keep you updated on the opponent named for Luke Campbell when the announcement is made.
