Canelo Alvarez Says He Will Knockout Golovkin in a Trilogy!
As most of you know by now, Gennady Golovkin is the new IBF middleweight champion. He did so by defeating Sergey Derevyanchenko on October 5.
While he did officially get the nod, there’s a lot of people who witnessed the fight that feel otherwise. Golovkin looked every bit of his 37 years of age. He was out-boxed and outfought for majority of the fight. Derevyanchenko even managed to hurt him badly to the body in the middle rounds.
The most interesting observer of them all was Canelo Alvarez, the man he has shared the ring twice with. Golovkin, who’s hell bent on getting another opportunity at the middleweight champion, didn’t really do himself any justice with his recent performance.
BOLD WORDS
Alvarez has made it crystal clear of his lack of desire for a third fight against his arch nemesis. However, in a recent interview with TV Azteca, he seemed to leave a little hope that he would face his older adversary in 2020.
“Since he fought me, Golovkin, he hasn’t done anything. If he does not represent a challenge, I will not do it. Break down the numbers to me and then maybe. What will happen in the third? I’m going to win again, I’ll even knock him out.”
At one point, a knockout prediction from would’ve been considered a bold one. However after the most recent outing, that’s something that seems more than feasible for Alvarez to accomplish.
The Mexican superstar is a prideful guy and if Golovkin somehow bounces back with a vintage performance against someone like WBO champion Demetrius Andrade in what would be a unification bout, then just maybe we’ll see these two guys go at it one final time.
