Canelo Alvarez tells Demetrius Andrade “You will never get the fight”

Unified super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (56-1-2, 38KO) made former WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders (30-1, 14ko) quit on the stool in their unification bout. In a heated exchange during the post-fight press conference, WBO Middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (30-0, 18ko) confronted Canelo.

CHASING CANELO ALVAREZ

There is a long documented history of Andrade chasing a fight with the Mexican champion. It can be traced back to when both fighters were competing at junior middleweight. Boo Boo was the champion while Alvarez was the number one contender. One of the main reasons Andrade went up to middleweight and signed with DAZN British promoter Eddie Hearn was in hopes of finally landing the fight.

Alvarez held all three belts at middleweight after defeating Daniel Jacobs for the IBF title back in May 2019. He only needed to fight Andrade for undisputed. Instead, he decided to forgo undisputed and looked to take away the WBO light heavyweight title from Sergey Kovalev back in November 2019.

Hearn is on record saying the Alvarez should be focused on fighting the WBO champion.

“Canelo should be fighting Demetrius Andrade. He shouldn’t be fighting Kovalev. It’s a good fight, but he should be fighting other champions in the division.”

Alvarez is the face of boxing and the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. His accomplishments and accolades being a four-divisional champion is nothing to sneeze at. However, for some reason, he is not interested in fighting the WBO champion and made it very clear during their dust-up at the post-fight presser.

Andrade attended the fight wearing a very funny shirt that said, “Canelo & Billy Joe are scared to fight Boo Boo.”

THE POST FIGHT WAR OF WORDS

Putting Saunders aside, Andrade crashed the post-fight presser wanting to know when the Mexican superstar was going to fight him. An annoyed Alvarez showed the most emotion fans have ever seen out of him and spoke his mind in perfect English.

“You are a champion but you have not fought anybody. Get the fuck out of here man, get the fuck out of here.. You will never get the fight, you are a horrible fighter.”
