Mbilli and Sheeraz Are Top Candidates for Canelo in September

Boxing fans should prepare to see Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Hamzah Sheeraz fight for the vacant WBO super middleweight title. Also, he could face newly elevated WBC champion Christian Mbilli as well.

The WBC organization ordered a fight between Mbilli and Sheeraz for the vacant title following the retirement of Terence Crawford. However, when they failed to come to an agreement, the WBC canceled the purse bid, resulting in the elevation of the Cameroon native.

CANELO HAS TITLE OPTIONS

Sheeraz is not left out in the cold, as a move can be made that involves a big fight with Alvarez. When looking at the WBO rankings, the Mexican is ranked number one, with Sheeraz holding the number three spot. While standing next to Turki Alalshikh, Canelo revealed on social media that plans are in place for him to return in September.

Sheeraz would enter the fight with a significant height and reach advantage. However, Canelo has defeated taller opponents before. What makes this an interesting contest is that getting past that long jab of Sheeraz could prove problematic.

Canelo isn’t going to waste time returning to the ring unless it’s for a world title. Considering his close ties to the WBC, a fight with Mbilli isn’t out of the realm of possibility. The newly-crowned champion has been linked to the Mexican superstar all of 2025.

Mbilli’s aggressive, fan-friendly style is perfect for a fighter of Canelo’s counter-punching ability. One thing is for certain: a big fight in the super middleweight division will take place sometime in 2026.
