A Carlos Adames vs Erislandy Lara Unification Only Makes Sense
Newly elevated WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames (23-1, 18KO) could fight in a unification against WBA champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (30-3-3, 18KO) next.
Days after getting arrested for a driving accident in Texas, Jermall Charlo was stripped of the WBC title. Following this decision, the organization decided to elevate Adames from interim to full champion status.
“The WBC Board of Governors has decided to confirm Carlos Adames as the WBC reigning middleweight champion as he is being elevated from interim champion to WBC World Champion.”

A UNIFICATION COULD BE NEXT
When pondering what could be next for Adames, a big unification match against Lara maybe on the horizon.
The American Dream was out of the ring for almost two years before stepping in the ring against mandatory challenger Michael Zerafa. Lara scored a statement-making knockout in the second round that put the division on notice on March 30.
Despite losing a step or two, the Cuban has moved from being a moving boxer to sitting down on his punches. Before defending the title, Lara was supposed to be on a collision course with two-divisional champion Danny “Swift” Garcia. He could be lured away from a showdown with Garcia for a shot at being unified champion again.
Adames is coming off an impressive ninth-round stoppage over former unified junior middleweight champion Julius Williams in June 2023. The newly-crowned champion has come a long way from suffering a lone defeat at the hands of Patrick Teixeira in 2019.
He’s since been on a five-fight win streak and has shown improvement while under the watchful eye of Bob Santos. It’s been said the WBC champion is no longer training with Santos.
This fight should be easy to make as both fighters are under the Premier Boxing Champions umbrella. Moreover, the winner would be one fight away from being crowned an undisputed champion.
