Charles Conwell gets a brutal stoppage over Patrick Day!
To open the DAZN telecast, Charles “Bad News” Conwell (11-0, 8 KO’s) started the show with a bang. Conwell, a native of Cleveland, OH, did so with a very lively dance partner in Patrick “All Day” Day (17-4-1, 6 KO’s). The two threw steady, meaningful punches beginning in the very first round and did not let up through the tenth and final period.
THE BREAKDOWN
From the outset, the taller Day assumed the role of ‘mover’ in this bout and sought to use his legs as his best form of defense. He also dedicated himself to an impressive body attack from the inception of the match.
Conversely, Conwell settled into his role of pressure fighter. Bad News pressed his opponent around the ring behind a nifty jab, consistent body shots and a short left hook that was money all night long.
The first three rounds were close enough, in each period. However, Conwell seemed to land the more impressive shots down the stretch.
Just as Day’s luck would appear to change in the fourth, Bad News would clip him and send him to the floor. Day would rise on sturdy legs, although the damage did its job. In the fifth, Day briefly gave the impression he was hurt with a body shot.
THE HALF-POINT
The New York native began getting things on track in the sixth and seventh round.
In these periods, he moved behind his jab effectively and largely nullified Conwell’s offense. Following these two beneficial rounds, Day got caught and dropped with a straight right on the tip of the chin.
The apparent deficit in points became a moot point in the tenth.
After buzzing his opponent with a overhand right, Conwell connected with his money-punch left hook flush on the chin. Day immediately went limp and collapsed. Upon impact with the canvas, his head violently collided with the ring floor.
Ultimately, Patrick Day was taken from the ring on a gurney with a very distressed Conwell looking on. Naturally, the somewhat grim end to the fight greatly muted Team Conwell’s victory celebration.
3kingsboxing will continue to provide updates on Conwell, as well as any and all health updates on Day.
It is known the New York fighter began seizing after the bout and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
