Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano Look to Stage a February 26 Rematch!

According to ESPN, WBA super, IBF and WBC super welterweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KO’s) and WBO champ Brian “El Boxi” Castano (17-0-2, 12 KO’s) have agreed to terms for an immediate rematch.

If all goes as planned, the two will test their might against one another February 26 at Houston’s Toyota Center. This announcement is not a complete surprise as the two had openly been working on contracting a rematch.

Castano and Charlo first fought for on July 17. The showdown’s intent was to crown the undisputed champion of the super welterweight division. Regrettably, the match ended in an unfavorable draw. Luckily, both competitors still want to settle the matter and have not busied themselves with alternative prizefights.

Jermell Charlo has been on a rather impressive run. His gauntlet has included Brian Castano, Jeison Rosario, Tony Harrison (twice), Jorge Cota, Austin Trout and Erickson Lubin, over the past four years. Still, their premiere encounter is evidence it would be foolish to count the talented El Boxi out in the rematch.

Barring any unforeseen mishaps, the boxing world will witness an exciting and meaningful conclusion to this rivalry come February 26!
