Jermell Charlo: It’s Passion
When describing the Charlo brothers, words like “anger” and “intensity” are quickly and frequently brought up. During his most recent presser, Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (32-1, 16 KO’s) upheld this characterization to perfection. While on stage with his upcoming opponent WBC world super welterweight champion Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (28-2, 21 KO’s), Charlo shook and twitched with emotion.
DON’T GET IT TWISTED
The two are all set to stage a rematch to their first fight from December 21, 2018. It was there under the hot lights of the Brooklyn Barclays Center that Harrison beat Iron Man via unanimous decision. Not only did Charlo receive his first professional blemish, he lost his WBC belt. The bout with Harrison would have stood as his fourth defense of the title.
As a result, the fierce Texan fighter has nothing but revenge and pay back on his mind. It goes without saying that those powerful emotions were on full display at the presser. However, in an interview with SecondOut, Charlo insisted that what the world saw was not anger but instead passion.
“It’s passion. I’m passionate about everything I do. From picking out my clothes, I’m passionate about how I dress, who I look, how I feel. It’s all passion. And if I got to be quiet about my passion, why y’all want me, why y’all interview me? Its’ not anger, nothing angers me. I’m very happy in my spirit, my soul and my intellectual. I’m different, I’m happy, I’m not angry I’m passionate and they get that confused.”
REFOCUSED AND REFUELED
According to Iron Man, he has been through too much previous adversity in his life to allow a single fight or fighter to seriously ruffle his feathers. Yet, while he claims that anger is not the source of his hyper animation, he does concede to being fired up. Professionally, he wants his belt back, but personally Charlo doesn’t care for how much talking Harrison is doing.
When the two do collide in just over a months’ time, there is little doubt that a memorable fight will take place! Even though he still maintains that he won the first prizefight, Charlo does acknowledge that he must be a better version of himself to prevail this time.
“It’s either knock him out or be a better Jermell than I was that day. More output, every round matters…I don’t like no boxer in my way and he’s in my way! He’s in my way and he’s talking aggressive and stupid, disrespectfully. So what, it’s personal? At the end of the day, I’m going to go in the shit and go for what I need to go for. Regardless of what he got going on and regardless of how he feel, and all of these words that don’t matter. Words don’t win the fight. He can keep bumping his lips and gums I ain’t going nowhere.”
