Suarez Inches Closer To A Title Shot After Defeating Castaneda
Junior lightweight contender Charly “King’s Warrior” Suarez (18-0, 10KO) scored an impressive stoppage over Jorge Castaneda (17-4, 13KO)
King’s Warrior almost ended the fight in the first round after wobbling Castaneda with a painful right hand. Realizing he couldn’t miss that punch the Filipino continued to throw punches in bunches landing the right hand with ease.
Despite being the shorter man, Suarez beat Castaneda to the punch repeatedly. Looking to make a statement he dropped the Texan with a left hook which was the beginning of the end.
The referee stopped the fight after Castaneda hit the canvas for a second time in the third round. Suarez was supposed to fight top-rated Andre Cortez. Understanding a world title shot could be next, he took advantage of the moment.
Team Suarez wants to challenge the winner in the rumored upcoming rematch featuring WBO champion Emmanuel Navarrete versus Oscar Valdez.
Depending on what happens between IBF champion Anthony Cacace and Josh Warrington, Suarez could fight for that title.
