Derek Chisora Looking to Overwhelm Otto Wallin!
Sadly, we live in an boxing era where many of our best and brightest, minus a gun in the ribs or polaroid of their kidnapped children, simply won’t fight their equally yoked contemporaries. This is why throwback fighters like Derek “War” Chisora (35-13, 23 KO’s) are so refreshing. In his forty-ninth fight of an eighteen-year career, War will next face Otto Wallin (27-2, 15 KO’s) on February 8.
Despite being stopped by Anthony Joshua back on December 23, 2023, Wallin has finagled for himself the handsome rankings of #11 (WBO), #11 (WBC) and #12 (IBF). Chisora himself is ranked #10 (IBF) and #14 (WBO) and riding a two-fight winning streak since last losing to Tyson Fury on December 3, 2022.
BURGERS AND BRAWLS
The main theme of this duel is centered around it being Chisora’s last fight in the UK before his impending retirement. Naturally being the lifelong spark-plug of a character that he is, War is not aiming off quietly into the night. In fact, Chisora has every intention of going for the kill in this high stakes IBF final title eliminator.
“I’m buzzing for this fight. You know it’s going to be one exciting fight, I will tell you that! Do not sit down because we are going to drown this guy. We are going to go hard . . . I don’t think he is going to go toe-to-toe with me – I think he is going to run. You know, that’s why we chose the smaller ring. You can’t run anywhere, now.”
ANOTHER DAY IN THE OFFICE
It will be interesting to see how the prizefight plays out. Despite being saddled with 13 defeats, War caused each and everyone of his foes more agony than a tap dancer’s bunion. Not only this, he has sharpened his teeth with some of the finest in the division. As evidence, a quick perusal of his resume will turn up handles such as: Dillian Whyte, David Haye, Kubrat Pulev, Joe Joyce, Joseph Parker, Vitali Klitschko, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
No matter how many times Chisora has been counted out, he has always put on a show. Win, lose or draw, War makes sure to leave his enemies wounded and respectful. As of late, Chisora is on a winning streak. In the end though, we’ll just have to see how it plays out in the ring.
Will Father Time finally put the brakes on Chisora? Or does War have another quality beatdown in the chamber to hand out? Thankfully for us, no matter what the outcome, it should be fun getting there.
