Omar Salcido Picks Up A Career Victory Over Chris Colbert
In a lightweight battle, Omar “Super” Salcido (20-1, 13KO) picked up a big win over Chris “Primetime” Colbert (17-3, 6KO) by ninth-round stoppage.
Primetime tried to box and keep the fight at a distance while landing good shots to the body. Yet, he was lured into a shootout as Salcido’s pressure and awkward fighting style forced Colbert to stand.
Realizing he wasn’t fighting the right way, Colbert decided to box and move around the ring to regain control. He used the jab to keep the fight in the center of the ring and found a home for the left hook.
Undeterred, Super kept coming forward with pressure and landed a right hand that hurt Primetime. In the later rounds, Colbert wilted from Salicido’s pressure and body shots. The Mexican kicked into overdrive, hitting his opponent with everything except the kitchen sink.
Things looked so bad for the New Yorker that his trainer threatened to stop the fight if he didn’t show him something. True to his word, Colbert’s corner threw in the towel after Salcido landed more hard shots in the ninth round.
