Chris Jenkins Wins Unanimous Decision Over Julius Indongo
It’s been quite a rough journey for Julius “Blue Machine” Indongo (23-5, 12 KOs) since losing his junior welterweight titles to Terence Crawford in their August 2017 undisputed title fight. He’s 1-4 in his last five fights, with all the losses coming by way of stoppage. Things would not fare better, not even with the move up to welterweight. His opponent, Chris “Rok’n’Rolla” Jenkins (23-4-3, 8KOs), is a U.K. contender who hadn’t faced a world-class opponent before. He notched the biggest win of his career by defeating Indongo by unanimous decision.
The action started with Jenkins pressing forward, looking to make Indongo uncomfortable. The former champion would attempt to circle to his right, utilizing his right jab and counter left hand to offset the aggressive U.K fighter.
As the fight wore on, fatigue would set in for the aging former champion as he would get hit more consistently with the right hand from Jenkins. To make things more difficult for himself, he would lie on the ropes, which only made him a sitting target. This effectively played into the hands of Jenkins, who would out-hustle his man down the stretch.
At the end of eight rounds, there was no doubt that Jenkins was the clear winner. All three cards read 78-75.
This loss should no doubt signal the end of Indongo’s career. It’s clear he no longer has what it takes to compete with lower level fighters, let alone the elite of the welterweight division.
