Mikaela Mayer Wants To Fight the Winner of Amanda Serrano v Katie Taylor
Unified junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer (16-0, 5 KO’s) has been on an incredible run since entering the professional ranks in 2017. Under the flagship banner of Top Rank promotions, the Californian’s career has skyrocketed to the top. She also has her sights set on fighting the winner between seven division champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) and undisputed lightweight champion Katie “KT” Taylor (20-0, 6 KO’s).
In 2021, Mayer was hoping to become an undisputed champion by the end of the year. Despite things not going according to plan, the unified champ remains positive it will happen in 2022. Undoubtedly the biggest fight in women’s boxing is Serrano vs Taylor. Mayer is paying close attention to that fight. After becoming undisputed, she would seek to move up and face the winner of that fight.
LOOKING TO FIGHT TAYLOR OR SERRANO
The unified champion revealed a desire to fight the winner in an interview with iFL TV:
“I am in a very stacked division; tons of competition. I definitely have girls on my hit list. Number one is Alycia Baumgardner. I want that fight next [..] I really want the winner of Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano.”
Mayer stated this will be her last year competing at junior lightweight before moving up.
“I want this to be my last year at 130, I want to get the fights done and go undisputed, and I want to move up to 135. Katie Taylor is obviously the one at that weight division but now she is going up against Amanda Serrano […] I would love to challenge myself against the winner.”
