Featherweight Prospect Chris Zavala Tests Positive For COVID-19
Featherweight prospect Chris Zavala (6-0, 3KOs) was scheduled to fight Eddie Vazquez (7-0, 1KO) on Tuesday June 16. However, he has tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in the cancellation of the fight.
Trainer Manny Robles Jr told ESPN the following:
“All three of the kids that were sparring one another, we have quarantined them. Chris was the last one to test positive.”
This is obviously disappointing news, as the Long Beach, California native was looking to notch his seventh career victory as a pro. As for Vazquez, he took to his Instagram to confirm the disappointing news.
Zavala is not the first fighter to test positive for the virus. Mikaela Mayer (12-0, 5KOs), who also tested positive recently, was scratched from the previously scheduled fight with Helen Joseph (17-4-2, 10KOs).
It’ll be interesting to see if Zavala-Vazquez will be rescheduled for a future date. 3kingsboxing.com will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
